Tungsten carbide is an inorganic chemical compound that is produced by the reaction of carbon atoms and the chemical element tungsten at temperatures of about 1,400 to 2,000 Celsius. The production cost to make tungsten carbide is comparatively low compared to the production costs for metals such as gold, platinum, and titanium. Hence, carbide is used in the jewelry industry and one of its major applications is tungsten carbide rings.
